ASP.NET AJAX v1.0

The presentation tier was created using the graphical tools offered by Visual Studio and .NET. The original idea was to extensively use AJAX to really imitate a locally executed standalone application with features as they are known for example from Gmail.

The ASP.NET AJAX framework [12] allowed to relatively easily create a graphical user interface offering some Web 2.0-feeling to the users. However it does not contain such a big number of useful features as expected. There were only very few features that could be wisely used. Thus, it can be stated that the ASP.NET AJAX framework offers some useful features but has not yet been developed widely enough to allow the creation of complete applications.
